Financial year in review
Your super savings are performing strongly for you
Last financial year was extraordinary for the global economy and markets. Many governments, including ours, responded to the COVID-19 crisis by introducing income support schemes like JobKeeper, which aimed to replace workers’ lost income during lockdowns.
The development of an effective vaccine and easing of restrictions saw economies begin to reopen over the year. Economic growth was supported by Australians spending the savings they had built up during the restrictions.
These positive factors pushed the share market to historic highs and helped drive the strong performance most of our members have enjoyed last financial year.
Positive returns for all diversified options
We delivered positive one-year returns for members in all VicSuper diversified options. This included the default VicSuper FutureSaver Growth (MySuper) option, which returned 18.5%. The VicSuper Flexible Income Growth option returned 19.7%.
These are some of the highest returns we’ve witnessed in a financial year.
Superannuation is about the long-term, however. Importantly, over longer periods of 5 and 10 years to 30 June 2021, we continue to deliver strong, positive returns to our members. Our performance over the long-term is also above median versus peers in both our accumulation and retirement options2,3.
