Coalition super policies

The newly elected Coalition Government has proposed a number of significant policy developments in regards to superannuation. Some of these are listed below. Please keep in mind that these are only policies and have not yet passed legislation.

A two year delay in the SG increase. The compulsory superannuation contributions will increase to 12% by 1 July 2021, instead of 1 July 2019 as planned

  • Contribution cap limits including the co-contribution scheme  to be re-examined when the Budget is back in surplus.
  • A review of minimum annual withdrawal amounts imposed on account-based pensions.
  • Introduction of payment of superannuation to women while on paid parental leave.
  • Streamlining of employer superannuation reporting for small business by implementing a superannuation clearing house through the ATO.
  • Introduction of measures to ensure 'real competition' in the default super fund market.
