Integrating sustainability into our everyday operations is an important part of building a resilient and future focused super fund.

For us, the sustainability of our operations encompasses the environmental impacts and social aspects of our business. We are committed to minimising use of natural resources and reducing the environmental impact of our activities. We believe this helps to protect the environment and also reduce our operating costs. We also have a number of initiatives which help to increase employee satisfaction and productivity and the way we engage with our suppliers. We think this ultimately help us build a stronger and more resilient super fund.

Employees

Our priority is to provide a positive working environment that is safe, productive and rewarding. Find out more about our culture, values and workplace benefits. We also offer our employees different ways to connect with and contribute to Victorian community outcomes through our Community Connect Program.

Energy and greenhouse gas emissions

VicSuper has been measuring and managing operational energy use and GHG emissions since 2006 and we have a number of initiatives in place that contribute to reducing our consumption of energy and associated emissions. Find out more.

Paper

Office paper used for internal photocopying and printing is sourced from 100% recycled content. The stock that we use for our brochures and marketing material is required to contain:
  • at least 50% recycled content
  • Forest Stewardship Certified (FSC)
  • Elemental chlorine free (ECF) or totally chlorine free (TCF)

Waste and Recycling

A comprehensive recycling system is set up in all VicSuper offices. This includes paper and cardboard, organic waste, toner cartridges and co-mingled recycling. VicSuper maintains a recycled waste target of 80%.

Disused computer equipment is recycled through B2C Recyclers, who distribute donated computer equipment to local and international communities in need. Where it cannot be reused, the equipment is stripped down and recycled, thus reducing the amount of waste ending up in landfill.

Transport

VicSuper’s fleet vehicles are all hybrid fuel cars. Employees are encouraged to use public transport rather than a vehicle or taxi. Public transport tickets are available for employees to use when travelling to out-of-office meetings and all of our employees can access discount public transport commuter club benefits.

Supplier engagement

We are committed to proactively managing the environmental and social impacts associated with the procurement and outsourcing activities of our Fund. Our Supplier Engagement Policy helps VicSuper manage sustainability risks and leverage opportunities associated with our procurement and outsourcing activities.
