Investment managers
To invest the retirement savings of VicSuper members, we combine the services of our in-house investment team, who are VicSuper employees, with specialist investment manager Vanguard Investments Australia Pty Ltd (AFSL 227263), which is one of the world's largest mutual fund managers. VicSuper's in-house investment team manage Australian listed shares, cash and Australian fixed interest. Vanguard Investments Australia Pty Ltd manages international listed shares.
Written agreements establish guidelines for the management of VicSuper Fund assets.
Unit investment trust arrangements
VicSuper invests in externally managed unlisted unit investment trusts. A unit investment trust arrangement allows a number of individual investors to pool money. This provides greater access to a wide range of listed equities including companies rated as sustainability leaders, as well as private equity and property investments.
In 2008/09, VicSuper commenced investment in the following unit investment trusts:
- Vanguard Emerging Markets Shares Index Fund, managed by Vanguard Investments Australia
- Carbon Aware International Shares Fund, managed by Vanguard Investments Australia
- VicSuper International Private Equity Trust (which invests in Performance Venture Capital II managed by Performance Equity Management LLC).
