Due to the performance of global investment markets, the 2008/09 financial year proved challenging for all super fund members. Markets felt the full impact of the global financial crisis. But despite this, VicSuper's position remained strong and stable, and our performance compared favourably with other superannuation funds.

Investment update

2008/09 is likely to be remembered as the most severe global economic downturn in most peoples' lifetime. Both asset classes of equities and property produced negative annual returns - which were reflected in the annual returns for those VicSuper investment options with allocation to one or both of these asset classes.

My VicSuper Pension

Periods of negative returns are never easy for those members receiving a regular income stream from their superannuation savings. But keep in mind, a VicSuper Pension offers flexibility and control over your savings in a tax-effective environment, and may improve eligibility for a full or part Centrelink Age Pension.
